Engineering Tips: Make Your Mornings More Productive

So far in college I have learned a few important facts about myself. One of them is that going to bed early and getting up early in the morning is easier for me to do. I tend to be a morning person rather than a late night person after working in all my internships and trying to figure out getting all my work done for school with my busy schedule. As a used to be night person, I wanted to share some tips on how I got myself adjusted to waking up so early to #gsd and make a dent in my daily to do list.

1. I always make a list on Sunday mornings of what I need to get done for the week along with what meetings I have and how long I assume things will take me. This makes it clear what time I will need to spend on my activities and I plan from there what time I will get up every morning.

2. When you wake up and feel groggy, do an activity that makes you feel good! I like to stretch once I have gotten dressed for the day and cook a small breakfast. After stretching, I make have eggs scrambled with veggies along with toast which is my favorite. Otherwise, I skip breakfast if I get up late or I will end up eating some dry cereal which is not as appealing. I also make a large french press full of coffee or tea, depending on how much sleep I got the night before to get my brain moving!

3. I like to enjoy the sun coming up and the peace of the morning so I try to sit by a window to get a little more connected to nature even though I am inside working. Something about morning light frames the world in such a happy way. When it is nice out, I love to take pictures of the campus as I walk to my study spot to capture how pretty it is forever.

4. Lastly, I find that treating myself to a little reading of a book that I want to read or something I want to do like stop at Starbucks on the way to class is a really good incentive to finish up my work in the morning.
